After reshaping India’s food delivery landscape, Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal is preparing for a bold entry into the aviation sector. In collaboration with Surobhi Das, a fellow entrepreneur and former Zomato executive, he is backing LAT Aerospace, a startup working to revolutionise regional air travel in India.
LAT Aerospace is establishing a network of low-cost, high-frequency flights intended to link under-served towns and cities. In contrast to sprawling, congested airports, their planes will lift off and land from compact air-stops close to residential and business districts. These air-stops will be no larger than parking lots and are intended to make flight as convenient as taking a local bus.
The concept of LAT Aerospace was born out of personal frustration with the situation of regional air travel in India. Years of handling fragmented routes, high fare and long travel distances prompted the question of why flying is still not accessible to so many, particularly beyond metros. This prompted a fresh vision of air mobility that prioritizes convenience and frequency over conventional airline norms.
Instead of modifying the existing aviation system, LAT Aerospace is developing a new model entirely. That means infrastructure and planes suited for short distances, rapid turnaround times and simplicity. By eliminating lengthy airport commutes, security slowdowns and flight delays, the firm wants to make flying a daily occurrence for millions.
Goyal has invested $20 million of the $50 million raised, applying his expertise at scaling disruptive technology to this broken but complicated market. LAT Aerospace is assembling its team and invites engineers, designers and aviation visionaries to join something bold.
This would be a significant step towards making air travel accessible in India.
