Gujarat’s Leap into Spacetech: A Bold New Frontier, with Omspace Leading the Way

Gujarat Leap into Spacetech A Bold New Frontier, with Omspace Leading the Way

The private space sector in India has, in the last couple of years, made a meteoric ascent. But even more exciting is the recent introduction of state-level initiatives to fuel the momentum. Of these, one of the most promising is Gujarat's foray into the space sector through the release of the Gujarat SpaceTech Policy. Led by the Department of Science & Technology (Government of Gujarat) and in partnership with IN-SPACe (ISRO), a courageous call to entrepreneurs, engineers, and visionaries to construct the future of space technology from the very heart of India.

The Gujarat SpaceTech Policy prescribes an influential mix of capital support, infrastructure augmentation, and policy coordination to drive growth. It offers financial support in the form of funding aid, such as ₹5 crore support on launch expenses and a 25% concession on fees for utilizing IN-SPACe technical infrastructure. It also grants reimbursement of up to ₹50 lakh for patent filing and guarantees support towards developing ground segment equipment. The policy is also aligned strategically with the IT/ITES policy of Gujarat and has proposals for the setting up of a standalone Space Manufacturing Park and Centre of Excellence for R&D and scalability. Collectively, all these initiatives are building a strong end-to-end ecosystem that is not only going to launch rockets, but also push careers, enterprises, and a full-fledged space economy.

Some of the startups have already set out to catch this wave of innovation and opportunity. Names like SatLeo Labs, Azista BST Aerospace, PierSight, Advick AgVenture, and Space Technology and Aeronautical Rocketry are pioneering in fields from satellite imagery to aerospace education. SatLeo Labs is a pioneering Earth observation company transforming how we understand and respond to our planet’s changing thermal landscape. Founded by Shravan, Dr. Ghosh, and Urmil, the company was born from a shared vision to bridge critical gaps in temperature data using space-driven thermal intelligence. From agriculture and defense to disaster management and urban planning, SatLeo’s AI-powered satellite solutions deliver real-time, high-precision thermal insights that empower smarter, data-driven decisions. With microsatellite deployment underway and a mission rooted in sustainability and innovation, SatLeo Labs is reshaping global responses to climate challenges one pixel of heat at a time.

But there is one name that stands out due to its vision and its mission to democratize space accessibility, Omspace Rocket.

Headquartered in Ahmedabad, Omspace is revolutionizing the space frontier by concentrating on making space accessible, affordable, and sustainable. While conventional space missions have tended to be the domain of resource-rich governments and mega-corporations, Omspace is charting a different course through the creation of small launch vehicles for nano and cube satellites. These small satellites are transforming areas like Earth observation, communications, and climate monitoring. Yet the problem has always been getting them into orbit at a cost that is economically viable, a problem that Omspace is working hard to overcome through innovative engineering and a determination to find cost-effective solutions.

What makes Omspace different, however, is its strongly indigenous culture. It is a company designed and led by Indian engineers who were born in Gujarat and created with a love of self-sufficiency and technological advancement. This indigenous spirit follows the path of ISRO and embodies a wider aspiration: making space inclusive. Omspace is a powerful metaphor for the fact that space is no longer the preserve of the privileged. It's for every dreamer with a vision and the drive to chase it.

And as Gujarat continues to support these aspirations with good policy backing, the coming together of startups, state efforts, and expertise marks the beginning of a thriving spacetech ecosystem. With the likes of Omspace at the forefront, Gujarat is not only joining the space race across the world. It's redefining the game.
