Tamil Nadu is rapidly emerging as the pulse of electronics production in India, and nowhere is that more pronounced than in the emerging role of the state in Apple's international supply chain. Due to a combination of strong infrastructure, qualified labor, and responsive governance, the state is drawing top global players and solidifying its position in the high-tech value chain.
Central to this change is the Tamil Nadu Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme, introduced in April. The program offers state-level incentives that are supported by central government incentives, making it an extremely competitive landscape for businesses to invest and expand.
The ambition scale is massive. With a target of investment of INR 30,000 crore and a possibility to create 60,000 new jobs, the state is not simply thinking of incremental growth but an outright leap into the era of electronics production.
Large Apple vendors such as Foxconn, Pegatron (which is now owned by Tata Electronics), Jabil, and Salcomp already have operations in Tamil Nadu. New investments by companies such as Corning and ON Semiconductor indicate the increased optimism in the state's vision. These firms are grouped in major industrial corridors such as Sriperumbudur, Oragadam, Hosur, and the fast-growing hub of Tiruchirapalli.
Minister T. R. B. Rajaa, who has been leading this change since 2023, recently said that Tamil Nadu is not only a part of the growth story of India anymore but a brand in itself. Businesses are now actively approaching proactively, attracted by what the state provides — not merely in infrastructure, but in trust, talent, and transparency.
Tamil Nadu's share of India's electronics exports was $14.65 billion in FY2025, representing more than 41 percent of the nation's overall. But the target is much more ambitious: $50 billion in exports in four years.
The next horizon encompasses advanced components like lithium-ion cells, flexible PCBs, camera modules, and sub-assemblies. Tamil Nadu is not only putting together the future — it is constructing it from scratch.
